Tuesday with Team 72!

Dear Children and Families,

Next week on Tuesday February 14th, on Valentines Day, Team 72 will have the opportunity to participate in a traditional Valentines Day exchange.  Students are welcome to bring a valentine for everyone in the classroom (22 in total).  Please only put on the Valentine who it is from, this saves time during the exchange and eliminates the need to bring home a class list J  Thank you!!

·      Pay for swimming through My CBE Account.
·      Next class library book exchange is Tuesday February 21st.
·      Friday February 10 is Club Friday J



Today:

We did reading today.  We read with ourselves and read to someone else.

We had gym today.  Please share what you did today.

Ms. Collins read to us the book, “Just Like Me, Climbing a Tree’ by Durga Yael Bernhard. 

We finished our ‘My Winter Tree’ writing.  When we were finished we were asked to draw a picture and write about anything we have been listening to about trees.  Some ideas were; My Perfect Tree, Climbing a Tree, Walking in the Forest, My Tree Fort. 

In Math, we practiced our math skills playing math games.  We ended the class practicing ordering numbers from greatest to least and least to greatest.

In Science, we started our plan for building our forts.

In Art, we listened to Liam and Brooke share information about Arbor Day to the class and we then had an anonymous vote to see what would be our top 2 pieces of artwork for the invitations to Arbor Day.  Please share to your parents what you know about Arbor Day.  When is Arbor Day?  Why is Cranston School having Arbor Day?

Reading Minutes Today: 30 minutes

Ms. MacMillan will see you for the rest of the week J  Ms. Collins will see you next Monday and Tuesday. J

Wednesday class leader is Wesley.  Remember to bring a stuffie to share with the class.

Learning Commons Today!

Reminders:
·      Pay for swimming through My CBE Account.
·      Students brought home new library books today from the Learning Commons.  Please bring back late books tomorrow and students will be able to go and sign out new books.

In Math, we played a game “Guess My Number” with a partner.  Share some of the questions you asked your partner. 

Ms. Collins read the book, “The Perfect Tree” by Chloe Bonfield.  We drew what we were visualizing in our drawing books.

Thursday with Team 72

Dear Children and Families,

For the next 2 months Cranston School is participating in the Calgary Flames Reading Give it a Shot program.  On the calendar Record and Sign the number of minutes your child reads each day.  Check the blog to add on the number of minutes we read at school to add to your daily total.  When your child reads for 100 minutes, return the calendar page to school to show Ms Collins and Ms MacMillan.  For every 100 minutes your child reads they will receive a Calgary Flames Hockey Card.  Please email Ms MacMillan if you have any questions.  lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca

Today:

We read to self, read to someone and listened to reading.

We read for 25 minutes today.

We put on our thinking caps today and wrote a reading response about the story Perfect Snow by Barbara Reid.  We drew a picture to help us visualize and then wrote a summary of what happened in the story.  We used the words who, where, when, what to help us think of the important parts of the story.

In word work we talked about word word families.  What words do you know that are in the same family? (hint:  an can man ran fan)

In math we used pictures and numbers to write about adding. 

Ask me about the tag games we played in gym.

During social studies we looked at the photos we took on our community walk.  We sorted them into objects we could see that help us meet our needs and wants.

In math we used our blocks to show adding numbers together.

During Social Studies we participated in Winter Walk day.  We looked at a map of Cranston and then walked around to try to see how people in our community meet their needs and wants.  Thank you so much to Roland's mom for volunteering with us!

Tomorrow’s Class Leader: Grayden (remember to bring a stuffy to share)  Declan is going to share his stuffy and we will give him compliments too.
