Reading Give it a Shot, starts today

Dear Children and Families,

For the next 2 months Cranston School is participating in the Calgary Flames Reading Give it a Shot program.  On the calendar coming home today Record and Sign the number of minutes your child reads each day.  Check the blog to add on the number of minutes we read at school to add to your daily total.  When your child reads for 100 minutes, return the calendar page to school to show Ms Collins and Ms MacMillan.  For every 100 minutes your child reads they will receive a Calgary Flames Hockey Card.  Please email Ms MacMillan if you have any questions.  lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders:
HOME READING:  Reading Give it a Shot Program starts today.
-No School Friday

Important Words:
POWER WORDS:            just, an, man, over, were
These are words we are learning to read and spell.

ACADEMIC WORDS:       add plus all together
community  needs  wants
These are words that we are learning to understand the meaning of in math and social studies.

Today:

We practiced reading to self and reading to someone. Congratulations to the kids who received a Home Reading Award today.  Bring in your blue home reading sheets tomorrow if you didn’t have it today.

We read for 30 minutes.

We put on our thinking caps today and wrote a reading response about the story 50 Below Zero by Robert Munsch.  We drew a picture to help us visualize and then wrote a summary of what happened in the story.  We used the words who, where, when, what to help us think of the important parts of the story.

In math we used our blocks to show adding numbers together.

During Social Studies we participated in Winter Walk day.  We looked at a map of Cranston and then walked around to try to see how people in our community meet their needs and wants.  Thank you so much to Roland's mom for volunteering with us!

Tomorrow’s Class Leader: Grayden (remember to bring a stuffy to share)  Declan is going to share his stuffy and we will give him compliments too.

See you tomorrow!

Ms. MacMillan
