Thursday with Team 72

Dear Children and Families,

For the next 2 months Cranston School is participating in the Calgary Flames Reading Give it a Shot program.  On the calendar Record and Sign the number of minutes your child reads each day.  Check the blog to add on the number of minutes we read at school to add to your daily total.  When your child reads for 100 minutes, return the calendar page to school to show Ms Collins and Ms MacMillan.  For every 100 minutes your child reads they will receive a Calgary Flames Hockey Card.  Please email Ms MacMillan if you have any questions.  lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders:
HOME READING:  Use the words who what when where to talk about what is happening in the book you read.
-No school tomorrow

Important Words:
POWER WORDS:              just, an, man, over, were
These are words we are learning to read and spell.

ACADEMIC WORDS:         add plus all together
  community  needs  wants
These are words that we are learning to understand the meaning of in math and social studies.

Today:

We read to self, read to someone and listened to reading.

We read for 25 minutes today.

We put on our thinking caps today and wrote a reading response about the story Perfect Snow by Barbara Reid.  We drew a picture to help us visualize and then wrote a summary of what happened in the story.  We used the words who, where, when, what to help us think of the important parts of the story.

In word work we talked about word word families.  What words do you know that are in the same family? (hint:  an can man ran fan)

In math we used pictures and numbers to write about adding.

Ask me about the tag games we played in gym.

During social studies we looked at the photos we took on our community walk.  We sorted them into objects we could see that help us meet our needs and wants.

Monday’s Class Leader: Liam (remember to bring a stuffy to share!)

Blog Question:  What words do you know that are in the same family?

Mrs Collins will be with the students Monday and Tuesday.  See you all Wednesday!

:)  Ms. MacMillan
