Wednesday with Team 72

Dear Children and Families,

Help us bring some Christmas joy to our city’s homeless

The Fill a Sock, Fill a Need campaign provides a Christmas “stocking” of essential needs and small personal items to those in need.

We are asking each student to donate $5 (or more J) to help fill socks to be donated to the Drop In Centre.  If possible, we would also ask students to donate a pair of new, warm, adult sized socks.

We strongly encourage students to earn their donation money by doing chores around the house - shoveling snow, taking out the garbage…etc.

We will be collecting money from students between
November 21st and December 1st

-Practice Xmas Concert Songs please!
-Xmas Concert next Tuesday.  Afternoon and Evening performances.
-Community Walk for tomorrow is cancelled because we don’t have enough volunteers.  We would like to go next Wednesday afternoon, please email Ms MacMillan if you are able to come with us.  lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca

Today:

We had a fire drill today to practice being safe.

We are learning to read.  We practiced reading to self and reading to someone.

In writing we talked about the difference between fiction and non-fiction books.  Ask me what I know. 

In word work we used the letters  i i n g s h f  to make words. 

In math we talked about difference ways to count.  The we played “Counting On and Counting Back”  and “Zap”. Ask me to tell you about these games. 

Ask me what I did during music and phys ed.

We listened to a story called How Big is the World? by Britta Teckentrup.

We started our Social Studies lessons today.  Ask me what speical objects I looked at today.  We will be learning about families and communities across Canada this year.

Tomorrow’s Class Leader: Anthony (remember to bring a picture to share.  A photograph or a picture you have drawn yourself)

Tuesday with Team 72!

Dear Children and Families:

Team 72 got their Christmas concert information form (green) with two attached tickets.  If you are wanting more tickets there will be a draw this Friday December 2nd.  Please email Ms. Collins (clcollins@cbe.ab.ca) or Ms. MacMillan (lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca) with the number of extra tickets you are requesting.  If there are any families who are NOT using both or one ticket please return them back to the school.  Those will be the extra tickets that will be drawn on Friday. Thank you.

Families are welcome without tickets to the afternoon performance (Dress Rehearsal).



Reminders:

-    Library books went home today with the students who brought back late books today
-    Christmas Concert forms and tickets went home today
-    Students who have speaking parts in the Christmas performance please practice at home J

Today:

We started our day doing our spelling centres. 

We read to ourselves and read with a buddy while Ms. Collins did guided reading. 

In Science, Team 72 were really excited to work on their dens/burrows!  They are looking awesome!  If students want to bring more leaves, sticks, grass, rocks next Monday they can!

Power words this week are; who, them, do, some, your.

In math, we worked on comparing two groups by using the vocabulary ‘more than’ and ‘fewer than’.  We learned who enjoys skating or sledding more. We are also practicing describing our numbers in many different ways.

We had music and a body break outside today.

Learning Commons, Estimating, Burrow/Den Building

Dear Children and Families:

There will be an information form about the Christmas Concert going home tomorrow for Team 72.  Each family will be getting two tickets (attached to the form) and admission will be by donation. Donation information is also on the form.  Team 72’s concert is on Tuesday December 6th; dress rehearsal at 1:00 pm and evening performance at 6:00 pm.

Conferences were wonderful! It was great talking about all the learning and growing each student is doing in Team 72.  Ms. MacMillan and Ms. Collins are proud of everyone!  Thank you for coming.



Reminders:

We had music and gym today.  Please tell your parents what you did.

In Science we started our burrow/den projects.  Let your parents know what materials you used today so far.  What is the difference between a burrow and den?  What are you making? A den or burrow….why?

Thursday with Team 72

Dear Children and Families,

Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday night and Friday.  We are excited to share student progress with you!

Today:

We are learning to read.  We use strategies to help us figure out words.  We point to the words, we look at the pictures, we look at the first letter in the word, we say the letters sounds out loud.  Ask me what strategies I am using when I read with you at home.

During writing we had free choice writing time.
  
In word work we played the Making Words game.  We used the words it, in and is to make words.

In math we finished showing what we know about patterns.  We wrote about our patterns using pictures, numbers and words.

In health we finished our class book about how to be a friend.
