Conferences tonight and tomorrow

Dear Children and Families,

Student Led Conferences tonight and tomorrow.  Come to school for your appointment with Ms MacMillan and Ms Collins and be prepared to spend at least 30mins while your child Shows you know What they Know!



Reminders:
Spring Break!  No school until April 3rd, 2017.
-Please do some Home Reading over the break

Important Words:

POWER WORDS:              practice any 5 you like!
These are words we are learning to read and spell.

ACADEMIC WORDS:         Arctic   Inukshuk
Pine cone Seed Seedling  Adult
These are words that we are learning to understand the meaning of.

Today:

We read to self and read to someone.  We had to ask our reading partner to STOP and THINK about what we were reading.  make a connection to the book they read.

We read for 30 minutes.

We wrote a poem about the important things about a Lodgepole Pine tree.   Then we created a life cycle.

In math we used our math centres to practice adding.  Ask me about a centre I used.

Ask me what I did during music and gym.

Tuesday with Team 72!

Reminders:

·      Keep up your Reading on your March ‘Give-It a Shot’ Calendars!!
·      Book Exchange was today.  Students brought home two new books.  They can bring them back after Spring break on Monday April 3rd.  Book exchange will be Tuesday April 4th.  Please return late books tomorrow.
·      Scholastic book orders were due today.
·      Student-Led Conferences are tomorrow Wednesday March 22 from 4 – 7 pm and Thursday March 23 from 8 – 12.  Please sign up on MY CBE ACCOUNT on Cranston’s homepage for a conference time with Ms. MacMillan and Ms. Collins if you have not done so already.
·      PD Day Friday March 24 – No School for Students
·      Classes resume from Spring Break on Monday April 3rd. J


Today:

In reading, we did read to self and read to someone today.  We listened to a guided reading group perform a reader’s theatre to the class.

We went to the Learning Commons for book exchange.

In writing, we wrote about any improvements (changes) we had to make during our building of our forts. We also had to explain why we had to make the improvements.

In math we worked on adding up to 20 and adding double digits.  Please share one strategy or tool you use to add.  For example, a strategy could be using my fingers, Chisanbop, making 10, using doubles, counting on from the higher number, using my head, drawing a picture, drawing tallies, breaking up a number into tens and ones.  A tool could be using a number line, using a hundreds chart, using tens and ones, using counters, using ten frames.

We had gym today.  Please share what you did.

In Science, we worked hard again to finish our forts.

Ms. MacMillan will see you tomorrow.  There is no school Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday class leader is Ellie.  Please bring in something that is special to you and, of course, can fit in your backpacks. J

Monday with Team 72!

We drew a picture to take part in a school wide vote for this years Cranston yearbook.  Please share what you drew to represent your feelings about Cranston School.

We had a special guest, Mrs. Jessica.  We learned about what it looks like, feels like, and sounds like, to be part of a group plan. Please share what you drew of your example of a group plan.

We had gym and music today.  Please share what you did.

In Science, we worked really hard on our fort building.

Ms. Collins will see you tomorrow.  Ms. MacMillan will see you Wednesday.  There is no school Thursday and Friday.
