Hard Working Cartographers

Dear Children and Families,

Volunteers Needed:  Can you help us by accompanying us for swimming lessons?  We need 3 volunteers every morning from 8:15am-11:00am from Monday March 13th to Thursday March 16th.  Please email lgmacmillan@cbe.ab.ca or clcollins@cbe.ab.ca.  Thanks for your help!

Reminders:

HOME READING:  We are learning to make a connection to what we are reading to help us understand.  Ask me to make a connection to what I read for home reading today.
-It’s not as cold but very wet!!  Please dress in clothes that can keep me warm and DRY!
-Please return Scholastic book order

Important Words:

POWER WORDS:              away, make, no, up, like
These are words we are learning to read and spell.

ACADEMIC WORDS:         data, tally, survey, bar graph,  pictograph
                             Map, legend, compass rose, scale
These are words that we are learning to understand the meaning of in math and social studies.

Today:

We practiced reading to self and reading to someone.  We are going to also take turns listening to reading.

We tried out some yoga moves for our body break.  Then we walked over to the Peace Wing to meet the new members of the Cranston community. Ask me what we saw.

We put on our thinking caps today and wrote a reading response about the story The Snowy Day.

In math we used tally marks to collect data for a survey. Then we created a pictograph

Ask me what I did during music and phys ed.

We talked about using maps to help us learn about people and places during Social Studies.  We began working in a team to create a map of our school.  Someone who makes a map is called a cartographer.

Blog Question:  What is your connection to your home reading today?

Tomorrow’s Class Leader: Roland (remember to bring a stuffy to share, it must fit in your backpack)

See you tomorrow!

Ms. MacMillan
