Wednesday with Team 72

Happy New Year Children and Families!



Reminders:

HOME READING:  All students need to be reading for 15 minutes every night.  You could listen to someone read, read a home reading book, read using Raz-Kids, read our POWER words or read a favourite book you have at home.
-Return Mad Science permission form by Friday please
-Return Swimming Level form by Friday please
-It’s still cold! Dress warm every day with snowpants, boots, jackets, hats and mitts!

Important Words:

POWER WORDS:            her, him, very, I’m, play
These are words we are learning to read and spell.

ACADEMIC WORDS:       data, tally, survey                                                             community, tradition, celebration, value
These are words that we are learning to understand the meaning of in math and social studies.

Today:

We practiced reading to self and reading to someone.

We tried out some yoga moves for our body break.

We added an Inferring symbol to our comprehension thinking caps today. Ask me what mine looks like. 

In word work we used the letters b d g s r e i to make words. 

In math we used tally or check marks to collect data for a survey.

Ask me what I did during music and phys ed.

We listened to 2 books today.  One called peace by  wendy anderson halperin and one called Bella and Harry visit Paris! by Lisa Manzione.

We talked about very important words that will help us learn about our Cranston School Community during Social Studies.

  1. This is how Kaitlyn defined the following words.
    Data means getting people to answer your question
    Tally mark means counting lines by 5
    Survey means asking a question like what is your favourite ice cream
    Community means the area that you live in like Cranston
    Celebration means the holiday or birthdays that you party with people
    Value means parents and kids have family time like movie nights
    Tradition means something you do over and over like decorating the tree with the same things or putting your stocking in the same place.
